Warder Water Pan Construction – Finni Sub-Location, Sabuli Ward, Habaswein Sub-County, Wajir County
Project Overview
The Warder Water Pan project, implemented by Rumhas Construction Co. Ltd in Finni Sub-Location, Sabuli Ward, Habaswein Sub-County, provides a sustainable and reliable water storage solution for pastoral communities in Wajir County. Designed to combat recurring water shortages, the project involved excavating a 17,345m³ reservoir with an average depth of 3 meters, reinforced embankments, and a 7.5-meter-wide buffer zone to ensure stability. Two inlet channels guide surface runoff through a silt trap into the main reservoir, reducing sedimentation and improving water quality. A well-engineered spillway manages overflow, while a 600-meter perimeter fence and steel gate enhance safety and access control.
Before the project, residents faced extreme water scarcity during dry seasons, relying on shallow wells and seasonal streams that often dried up. The new water pan now serves as a dependable year-round source for domestic use, livestock watering, and small-scale agriculture. It has improved local livelihoods, reduced long-distance water treks, and strengthened resilience to drought. The incorporation of environmental safeguards, such as silt traps and erosion control, ensures long-term functionality and sustainability. The Warder Water Pan stands as a model of community-centered infrastructure, demonstrating Rumhas Construction Co. Ltd’s commitment to improving water access and supporting sustainable development in arid and semi-arid regions of Kenya.
