Dagaley Water Pan Construction – Bakala Village, Basir Ward, Eldas Sub-County, Wajir County
Project Overview
The Dagaley Water Pan project, executed by Rumhas Construction Co. Ltd, delivers a vital and sustainable water storage solution for Bakala Village in Basir Ward, Eldas Sub-County, Wajir County. Designed to meet the domestic, livestock, and agricultural needs of the community, the project features a 21,698.88m³ reservoir with an average depth of 3 meters. The system incorporates reinforced embankments, inlet and spillway channels, a buffer zone for stability, and an efficient silt trap to control sedimentation. Additional infrastructure includes an intake tower, GI draw-off pipe, sump, and cattle trough, ensuring safe and convenient water access. The site is secured with a perimeter fence and steel gate to manage entry and protect the structure.
Before the project, Bakala residents faced severe water scarcity, walking long distances during dry seasons as shallow wells and pans dried up. The completed Dagaley Water Pan now ensures year-round water availability, reducing hardship and improving quality of life. It has strengthened local resilience against drought, supported livestock productivity, and encouraged small-scale agriculture. The project also promotes environmental conservation through erosion and sediment control. Overall, it exemplifies Rumhas Construction Co. Ltd’s mission to deliver durable, community-driven water infrastructure that supports sustainable development and enhances livelihoods in Kenya’s arid regions.
